An American mother of an adopted Colombian son ponders questions of family and identity.
On a trip from New York City to Bogotá, Colombia to attend a conference, author, Andrea Eschen, took a chance on meeting the baby boy whom she and her husband hoped to adopt. He was 25-days-old and the birth mother had five days to reconsider the adoption. Eventually, the author went to Bogotá and learned how to care for their new son. Twenty-five years later, the author reflects on how adoption shaped her son’s identify and at unforeseen events that have kept his connection to his country. She is still trying to answer questions about her son’s past.
